What to send first
You do not need everything worked out. These five turn a vague reply into a useful one, and they take a minute to write down.
- Both addresses
- Where you are leaving and where you are going, including the far end if it is out of the county. Village names matter more than postcodes here.
- The access at each end
- Floor, stairs, lift, and whether a full-size vehicle can reach the door. In the Weald and the old towns that is the whole question.
- Roughly how much
- Rooms will do — a three-bed semi, a cottage plus a loft, one bedroom of furniture. An inventory is not needed to start.
- Your dates, including the uncertain ones
- A completion that might move is the most useful thing you can tell us early, because it changes the plan rather than the price.
- Anything awkward
- A piano, a longcase clock, a marble table, a reclaimed fireplace, a lane a lorry cannot turn in. Surprises cost more than warnings.
